This work is composed of several steps and components which defines the final product.


the form: scale move rotate

In its final form of expression, a cross-section– element is taken, moved along a rail- line, scaled rotated and perforated to take on specific function along the process. This way of construction allows a good control over the UV-Sampling of the surface, even distortion like it is shown on the bridge later on through controlled non- normal surface/isoparms, an orientation in the direction of the river is possible.

For the smaller objects like benches and shelters, a rule how the object spread over the landscape, as well how the forms of these elements are connected with each other would have been a significant part of the outline, while the bigger objects can be more simple in that part, they need a sub- structure to fit their more complex specification.

the subsystem:

It is defined through two set of layers:

the primary system:

Basic structure of the surface, it perforates the surface with semantic elements, which size and orientation is primary bound on the shape of the surface, containing the following abilities:

  • the change of the basic UV- sampling from maya into an orientation, exactly at the falling line
  • the elements grow smaller, the greater the overall gradient of the surface on the specific point.
  • the elements grow smaller, the smaller the curvature- radius on the specific point.
  • it contains two layers of perforation, which are completely separately directional like scaled into different sizes, both of them can be put on or off, and controlled depending on the desired function of the building.

secondary system:

The secondary- structure is build up directly on the position of the primary, its main influences are the parametric values of the neighbouring environment:

  • it generally defines how transparent the surface on a specific point may be and places a interactive controllable system through the translation of in numbers freely chose- able “master” -spheres, with freely chose- able parametric values
  • there are multiple forms of the secondary system, it oversubscribes the other hull, structure the interior…., it can take different forms, depending on its functional need.
  • hard breaks, as well smooth transition are possible, the connection between the elements and the master- sphere is freely choose- able.

The field- division:

As site, a big unstructured field from the legacy- masterplan, for the Olympic field in the north was used. The biggest parts are taken and further divided with the following script.

The landscape- script

It is generally a wire, constructed through lines with point-constrains and therefore generates modular space- elements. It is than further- perforated, with a magnetic field, which itself are points, of objective high importance and manipulate the general oriented elements into the direction of these points. The field-logic is a objective one, the script asks a random element about its intersection with the others, takes these and asks these about their intersection in that certain group. If specific values are met, one of these element will be erased, a wire- element with no intersection to an other will never be deleted. The script therefore produces a semantic field, with jet many different field-shapes and sizes, which are then filled with the desired functions.

The Landscape / functions

The division of this fields, generally consists in the arrangement of aisles through the definition of thickly wooded fields and their gaps, with depending on its position, more or less public character. The principal idea consists in the separation of the surrounding urban area to create an own-decent landscape-area for dispersal, relaxation and varied experience-fields. However, good overviews over the landscape from certain points for guidance-reason should be possible, as well a related connection of the landscape over the river. (this function are are manually modelled).

The so constructed gaps are then further defined with varies function and should offer an extensive Repertoire, for all age-and interest-groups as well as their own area with half-public character through the structuring. The exact division takes place in the following recommendation.

  • dark green: close covered area – not enterable, the open areas are separated by thick forested firebreaks and create therefore a certain complexity in the scenery, change of narrow and wide space
  • light green: thinly covered enterable area, only some big trees as shelters from the sun
  • middle green: not cultured meadows (to 1 m high) / exotic plants..., generally not enterable
  • red: infrastructure facilities / facilities with area-independent functions placed on its foreland, like shops, restaurants...
  • blue: bigger park referenced interventions / facilities like bungalow, bridge, sport- facilitys…

The park- border contains a interlink with the surrounding through fluid transitions, funnel-shaped admittances, which can be used as parking bays.

The Objects:

The combined idea of the surface- and form generating script is; to take one cross- section, witch form is individually choseable and depends on the intended object, alternate it along the rail- line, cover it with the surface- script and let it take on different forms of expression, depending on its position and needed function. The desired effect is to create one surface that overlaps itself and therefore creates rooms with different forms and character.

The bungalow is designed for multi- functional uses and all kind of events, with a main- room that contains a gallery, a terrace, a smaller side- room, and a hall that connects all these. The structuring of the interior surface intents to create a liquid space- continuum between the different rooms. The exterior- part of the surface contains elements for relaxing and are also seen as extension to the outside for events that are taking place, those elements also have al liquid relationship to the parametric controlled openings.

For the bridge, compared to the bungalow, a as different expression as possible was indented. The bridge itself is divided in a tube with a high transparency and open structure to the neighbouring environment, and an other tube with parametric controlled openings witch emphasize light in equality to the form of the bridge, with its narrow and wide moments. Several 2m high openings connects the two tubes, for people who want to change the experience. The surface- system also is redirected into the floating line of the river.
